Mobile on AAA battery

There have been several innovative handsets from mobile phone manufacturers in the past, and today we have one such mobile phone for review. This is a handset that smartly charges itself from a AAA battery that can be accommodated in the phone. The manufacturer we are looking at today is Olive and the handset is called FrvrOn. The handset has gained attention globally because of its simple and yet innovative idea.

I think it's time to cut to the chase and get right to what matters most in this phone. The phone lives up to what it promises in its name - to keep the phone running throughout. The phone has a stated battery life of three hours of talktime with just over four days of standby. Though the standby time of the battery may seem low, its three hours of talktime is quite good. The use of the AAA battery to charge the handset is the best option and has put the Olive FrvrOn on international news as well.

You can slot in an AAA battery without shutting down the handset and through the menu on the phone you can start or stop the charging. The phone gets a short charge from the battery, enough to provide about 30 min of talktime and an hour of standby. Even if you do not stop charging, the phone auto stops it after it has transferred the short charge to itself. The battery life may not be great but this sure gives us the option to have a phone with some charge all the time, especially in an emergency.
The Olive FrvrOn sells for Rs. 1,600 with a one-year warranty. The pricing of the phone makes it easily affordable to anyone. However, the only thing is that such a phone would find only a niche audience, an audience mostly restricted to villages where there is shortage of power. If not, there are other options in the market like the Nokia 5030 or Samsung E1160.
